Sheep shearing finals for Corofin
COROFIN is all set to host the Connacht Sheep Shearing Festival over the weekend of May 19 to 21 next with a jam packed line-up of events scheduled.
The event was formally launched in Corofin last week with Cllr. Michael Connolly, Cathaoirleach of County Galway; Minster Sean Canney; Cllr. Pete Roche and Cllr. Gabe Cronnelly in attendance.
Minister Canney took the shears to formally launch the occasion. Main sponsors for the event are Bimeda as well as Frank Collins, publican from Rafterys Bar and Connacht Wool.
The Shearing Committee thanked the local and National businesses who have already generously given sponsorship and support towards the festival and also thanked the local community for the use of the land and yard for the this major event.
All-Ireland Champions Joe Stephens and Pete Hegerty gave sheep shearing demonstrations at the launch – Chairperson of the Shearing Committee, Peter McDonagh, said that the sheep shearing was a major event for the community and urged everyone ‘to spread the word’ about it and join us for our fun packed festival weekend.
