Shay Mouse returns – but Scullion deferred

One of the undoubted hits of this year’s Arts Festival was the family musical, The Adventures of Shay Mouse, written by Pat McCabe and staged by Galway Youth Theatre and Galway Community Theatre, under the direction of Andrew Flynn.

After its sell-out run at the Festival it’s now scheduled to play the Town Hall Theatre, from Thursday next, August 8 to Saturday, August 10.

Shay Mouse lives peacefully in Bornacoola Wood in Longford, smoking his pipe and inventing boastful stories for young Tom Pat Badger and Mickey Slug.  But when an evil band of rats are burnt out of a barn in Mullingar, they take over the wood, making the small animals their slaves. A disgraced Shay Mouse is forced to flee his home and embark on a wonderful adventure across the Irish midlands.

The Adventures of Shay Mouse was originally published as a children’s story in 1985. Written by one of Ireland’s finest novelists, it has been specially adapted and is now presented as a musical, with a large cast and live music.

The Adventures of Shay Mouse is an epic road trip for adults and for children aged five years and upwards. Tickets for next week’s shows are €15/€10 and booking is at tht.ie, by phone at 091-569777, or in person at the box office.

Meanwhile the concert by roots band, Scullion due to be held at the Town Hall on Tuesday next, August 6 has had to be postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.
