Musicians, singers, comedians and TV presenters descended on Clifden’s Abbeyglen Hotel at the weekend to take part in special fundraiser for the Connemara animal charity MADRA.

The ‘wedding’, on Sunday night, saw comedian Brendan Grace ‘marry’ musician and animal-lover Sharon Shannon in a ceremony conducted by sports broadcaster Marty Morrissey. Prior to the nuptials, Brendan had been marched up the aisle by his long-standing wife Eileen where she presented him with his P45, so that he could hook up with the Clare accordion player.

The bridesmaids were RTÉ’s Mary Kennedy and singer Eleanor Shanley and the groomsmen were musician Donal Lunny, actor Fred McCloskey and singer Matt Keane.

There was music and song late into the night at the event, which was attended by more than 150 very happy guests, and will aid the work of MADRA, the charity that looks after unwanted dogs and matches them up with suitable owners.

This was a wedding like no other, and happy tale, according to all who attended!
