SEVEN REDUNDANCIES PER DAY IN GALWAY LAST MONTH

Seven people were made redundant on average every day last month.

New research from the Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association shows that 215 people were made redundant from Galway companies in the month of January.

This is down 37 percent on figures for January 2010 in which 342 people lost their jobs.

Nationally, 355 redundancies were announced each day last month.

The Government came under attack last evening as the latest live register figures show half a million people on the dole.
