DARREN KELLY IN KILLEEDY

SARSFIELDS Junior B hurlers concluded their memorable run last Saturday as they landed the All-Ireland title following this three-point victory over Bruff. Eanna Dolan’s goal on 36 minutes was the turning point as they came from four points behind to win the Killeedy GAA Perpetual Cup.

Sarsfields came in as slight favourites following impressive wins over Wexford’s St. Martin’s and Thurles Sarsfields but three early wides didn’t allow them settle. In contrast, Bruff, who’d beaten the same two teams but by narrower margins, made the slight breeze count within two minutes as Tim O’Sullivan got them off the mark.  Goalkeeper Oisin Cooney’s long delivery on seven minutes found Dolan who supplied Kerril Wade for the equaliser.

Diarmuid Dennehy replied immediately for Bruff but Sarsfields regained parity through a Wade free on 10 minutes. And after a four player team move including Sean and Kieran Kelly, Dolan and Jordan McMahon two minutes later, another Wade placed ball put the Galway champions ahead.

For Bruff, looking to become just the second ever Limerick winners, David Browne was their talisman and he made it 0-3 apiece on 16 minutes. But after a foul on McMahon, it allowed Wade convert another free on 18 minutes, before the game’s first critical moment arrived.
