SETTLEMENT FOR MAN WHO SUED PORTIUNCULA HOSPITAL

A man who sued Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe for injuries suffered after contracting a virus following surgery has settled his High Court action.

The man – who cannot be named for legal reasons – sued Portiuncula Hospital for an operation he underwent there in 2001.

The hospital admitted liablility and Mr Justice John Quirke was left to assess damages only.

The terms of the settlement were not disclosed but according to today’s Irish Times, the man will receive a substantial six-figure sum.
