"Serious harm" was done to children by a few priests of the Tuam Archdiocese.

That’s according to CEO of the National Board on Child Safeguarding Ian Elliott.

His report on an audit of the Tuam Archdiocese carried out last June was published this morning.

Today’s report reveals that 18 priests were accused of abuse in the Tuam Archdiocese between 1975 and 2010.

Ten of those priests have died, while 8 priests were still living at the time of the review last June.

25 priests have had allegations reported to the Gardaí in the same period.

There are also 5 priests living within the Tuam Archdiocese who are not of the archdiocese but are the subject of an allegation arising from their past minstry.
