A teenager who caused the death of his best friend by driving dangerously in a has been remanded in custody and disqualified from driving for ten years.

The 17-year-old, who bought the car for 85 euros and a dozen oysters, cannot be named due to his age.

Judge Groarke questioned the actions of the vendor, a mature man, who had knowingly sold a "lethal weapon" with no brakes to a child.

Last November the teenager pleaded guilty before Galway Circuit Criminal Court to driving his 1998 car dangerously at a Co. Galway location on November 22, 2009, causing the death of his 16-year-old best friend.

The matter was adjourned to this week for sentence but Circuit Court Judge Raymond Groarke said he needed more time and he remanded the youth in custody for sentence on May 27th.
