Sentencing has been deferred in the case of a Ballyglunin man who posed as a Garda and tried to abduct a young man as he walked home alone.

Galway Circuit Criminal Court has heard evidence of how 33 year old Vincent Furey of Monastery Road, Ballyglunin, posed as a Garda and falsely imprisoned a 24-year-old teacher.

He then tried to force him into his car in the early hours of New Year’s Eve, 2009 at Barna Road, Salthill.

Judge Groarke said he had a two-year prison sentence in mind on each charge but was adjourning sentencing for eighteen months.
