SENTENCING DEFERRED IN ARAN ISLAND ASSAULT CASE

A 28 year old Aran Islander was remanded on continuing bail following his appearance before Galway Circuit Criminal Court this week in connection with a serious assault on a Garda Sergeant on the Aran Islands last Christmas.

Sean McDonagh, a single man from Cill Einne Road, Inis Mór, pleaded guilty to assaulting Sergeant Christy Joyce, causing him harm at Joe Watty’s pub, Kilronan, Inis Mór, on December 28 last.

Judge Raymond Groarke deferred sentencing until the Michelmas criminal sittings of the court in October and directed that both reports requested by counsel be made available to the court by that time.
