SENIOR HOUSE OFFICER IN OBSTETRICS ADDRESSES SAVITA INQUEST
Dr. Ikechukwu Uzockwu is now giving statement evidence at the inquest into the death of Savita Halappanavar.
The Senior House Officer at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology unit in UHG was on call on Tuesday October 23rd .
He says at 1am on the Wednesday morning, he went to the ward to review Savita and was informed she was asleep and clinically stable.
He returned at around 6.30 Wednesday morning when he reviewed Savita and formed the opinion that she may have sepsis.
He then informed the specialist registrar on call Dr. Sarah Campbell of his findings and management.
Coroner Dr. Ciaran MacLoughlin asked if Dr. Campbell had come to review the case after this alert and ordered a statement from Dr. Campbell as to what she understood by this call.
Praveen’s Barrister raised questions on Savita’s state on Tuesday evening 23rd October and read from a statement yet to be heard from witness midwife Annmaria Burke.
It read that she had made the Senior House Officer aware of the elevated pulse on Tuesday after a student midwife reported a pulse rate of 110.
However he argues that he wasn’t told the heart rate was elevated at the time.
Witness evidence is now being heard from Miriam Dunleavy, staff midwife at UHG.
