Senior County Council official passes away
Liam Gavin, a senior member of the Galway County Council executive, passed away today.
Mr Gavin, who lived in the city but was a native of Castlebar, suffered a heart attack on Monday evening and passed away earlier today.
Today’s Annual Budget Meeting of the Council was adjourned after news was learned of his passing.
Mr Gavin (57), had been serving as Director of Services for Roads and Transportation, Marine and General Services with the Council.
His death was described by Council Chief Executive Kevin Kelly as “a dark day” for the local authority.
He is survived by his wife Eileen and children and children Aine and Tomas.
