Gort’s annual Carpe Diem (Rise and Shine) concert is back and will be staged in Sullivan’s Hotel on Saturday, April 2, at 7.30pm

Carpe Diem, the brainchild of Coole Music School’s director, Katharina Baker, is the theme for a series of commemorative fundraising concerts held in memory of Eimear Noonan and Eli Murray, two talented young musicians, who died tragically in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

Last year’s concert was postponed due to Covid-19 but it’s taking place this year, on April 2.

It celebrates the return to stage of young musicians, who will be performing live across  many genres. Established  traditional musicians and contemporary performers will also take part.

All proceeds from the night will go towards supporting music education and performance opportunities for talented young people. A music bursary has been formed by the Noonan family and to date 21 third-level students have benefited from it.

Funds will also go towards supporting Coole Music and Arts School, local secondary school music departments, the UCC Orchestra and local CCÉ groups.

Conductor/composer Sinéad Hayes will  be MC for the event which will feature the 30-strong instrumental group, the Coole Music Youth Orchestra, as well as Kinvara Community Orchestra, which has 40 musicians, including six singers.
