18,000 patients who were added to the UHG and Roscommon Hospital waiting list in 2012 are to be contacted by letter in the next few days.

This is the second phase of a validation project started last November to check that they still need an appointment

It’s part of the strategy to cut waiting times and waiting lists and the Department of Health has set a target that by this November no patient should wait longer than 12 months for an outpatient appointment

Tony Canavan, Chief Operating Officer for the Galway and Roscommon Hospital Group says it’s really important that people take time to read these letters and take action by telephoning

The letter will include a telephone number for outpatient services where a team of staff dedicated to this validation project are ready to take calls.
