Second fish farm planned for west coast

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A second organic fish-farm is planned for the west coast.
According to today’s Irish Times, Bord Iascaigh Mhara is to seek a licence for the second organic fish farm between Inishbofin in Galway Bay and Inishturk in Mayo.
It’ll be one third the size of the fish farm already planned for Galway Bay close to Inis Oírr.
An assessment of the area for the second fish farm is to be carried out before a licence application is submitted to the Marine Minister, Simon Coveney.
The Galway Bay Against Salmon Cages group has been opposed to the 15 thousand tonne project off Inis Oírr since it was first mooted.
