School’s whiz kids pit their robots against best in country

A TEAM of programmers and computer whiz kids from Coláiste na Coiribe are preparing to pit their skills against the best from all over the country and, if they¹re successful, they could be taking on the best young programmer teams from all over the world.

Preparations are already well under way at the Galway city school, with students programming
Lego Robots, and writing the software which they will need to take part in the First Lego League, which is one of the major events of the Galway Science and Technology Festival (November 10 to 23).

The multi-sponsored Festival is now in its eleventh year and one of the competitions with a real international flavour is the Irish First Lego League, a contest in which school teams from all over the country compete by writing software and then programming Lego Robots to carry out a set series of tasks.
