Scheme to FUEL creative success

Four Galway-based performing artists, Tara Breathnach, Mags Keohane, Elaine Mears and Sarah-Jane Scott, have been accepted on the annual Druid FUEL residency scheme.

The nine-month programme, offered by Druid Theatre, includes mentorship, workshops, residency periods, a showcase event in the Mick Lally Theatre and networking events as well as funding and producing advice.

All four artists will be supported in their latest creative projects under the scheme.

City-born actress Tara Breathnach has worked extensively in Irish and English on stage and screen and has recently started creating her own work.

Her FUEL project, A Creature Uncommon, is a one-woman piece inspired by the 18th century Irish actress Peg Woffington who was infamous in Dublin and London for her cross-dressing ‘breeches roles’, numerous lovers and green-room rivalries.

Mags Keohane is a director, theatre maker and producer who recently produced Idlewild by Jimmy Murphy and Spliced by Timmy Creed. During her FUEL residency, Mags will develop a show inspired by personal accounts from the Irish Rwandan Support Group 1994 – this was Ireland’s first unarmed humanitarian mission.
