SCALED BACK PLANS FOR DOCKS IN THE CITY
Date Published: 20-Sep-2010
A scaled back proposal for the redevelopment of the Docks in the city is being put forward.
Galway Harbour Company has revised its plans for the Port to take account of the current economic climate.
The new Phase 1, which has an estimated cost of 50 million euro, will include the construction of a sheltered quay, allowing a turning circle for large cruise liners.
Phases 2 and 3 will provide a rail link and a new quay for the inshore fishing fleet.
The final phase, due to be completed by 2017, will include the development of a western marina for leisure craft.
The project is being presented to An Bord Pleanála as a Strategic Infrastructure Development and public consultation is expected in the New Year.
