SawDocs get the prescription right

THE Saw Doctors attracted 6,000 people to two sell-out concerts in a tented venue in Galway City at the weekend despite fears early last week that the gigs might have to be cancelled.
Two weeks ago, Galway City Council informed Saw Doctors manager Ollie Jennings that the ground at Salthill Park, which was to be the original location for the concert, would not be suitable after all. There had been some ground damage that could not be prepared in time for the weekend and that heavy foot traffic on the park would further damage the green area.
So, the band had to seek another location for their €30,000 Big Tent brought in from England by the company that erects tents for festivals like Glastonbury in England and the Electric Picnic in Ireland.
Then when the grounds at St. Enda’s College on Threadneedle Road were announced as the new location, a number of local residents raised objections before Galway District Court before the band got their licence for both Saturday and Sunday night with the caveat that the gig had to end at 10.30pm on Sunday night.
