Saw Docs pitch their own tent

THE Saw Doctors are celebrating 20 years on the road with a reunion concert in a tented venue in Salthill on Saturday, July 25.
The Melody Tent has been rented by the band from the UK based company, Mobile Stadiums, who supply the marquees for festivals such as the Electric Picnic, and will be located in Salthill Park.
It will be the second marquee erected in the city that week the other one is the Galway Arts Festival one at Fisheries Field, which the band had hoped to hire for the night.
Ollie Jennings, Manager of The Saw Doctors, told the Sentinel that initially he had hoped the band would play their reunion concert as part of the Festival programme and though the initial approach seemed positive, they were told in May that they were not chosen as one of the musical acts for this
year’s event.
“We have no problem with that but then we offered to hire the marquee off them for one night as we couldn’t find a venue large enough to hold 2,000 people and that would have been ideal.
We went ahead then and made arrangements to hire our own tent in partnership with Fáilte Salthill but it now emerges that the Festival tent is free the last two nights of the Festival, which is unfortunate as it seems a waste to have duplication when their tent would have been up and fully serviced.
