SAVITA’S HUSBAND GIVES EVIDENCE AT INQUEST INTO HER DEATH

Praveen Halappanavar is now giving evidence at the inquest into the death of his wife Savita at UHG last year.

Evidence has so far been heard from a GP, from a member of the garda siochana and from a worker from the hospital mortuary where the post mortem was carried out.

The inquest opened just after 10.30 when Praveen arrived with his legal team Solicitor Gerard O Donnell and Senior Counsel Eugene Gleeson.

Declan Buckey is Senior Counsel for the HSE.

The inquest is being heard in the presence of a jury – this is in accordance with S43 of the Act.

Coroner Dr.Ciaran MacLoughlin extended his sympathy to the next of kin and said the inquiry would be open, transparent and accountable.
