Satirical play a hit
Date Published: 26-Jul-2007
“A shocking history lesson of all the things that the Bush administration has done in the last six years since 9/11,” is how Lana Lesley of the Texan theatre company Rude Mechanicals describes their show which is running at the Galway Arts Festival until Saturday.
But the piece, entitled Get Your War On is also very funny, she adds. “The usual reaction is that ‘I laughed and laughed and also wanted to tear my hair out’.”
The piece, which is billed in the festival programme as theatre/comedy, is a stage adaptation of David Rees’s comic strip of the same name. Originally available on the internet, where it can still be seen on www.getyourwaron. com it is now a regular feature in Rolling Stone magazine which described the strip as “raw, enraged, sardonic, hilarious, despairing and impossible to pigeonhole”.
Get YourWar on plays at 10.30pm nightly in the Black Box until Saturday night. Tickets at www.galwayartsfestival.com, from the box office at Merchant’s Road or by phone, 091-566577.
