Up to 200 new jobs could be created at global technology giant SAP’s base in Galway. The news comes as part of an announcement of the creation of a total of 260 jobs at SAP at their bases in Galway and Dublin.

The company – described as one of the world’s biggest ICT (Information and Communications Technology) brands – carries out Research and Development and service and support for the likes of AIB, Bank of Ireland, Eircom and Ryanair.

The company expects to fill the new roles in its Research and Development team before the end of this year – it requires software developers, data scientists and quality specialists. Managing Director Liam Ryan said the expansion is another vote of confidence in Galway. “This announcement is another strong vote of confidence in the ability of SAP’s Irish-based operations to continue to attract talent that will be the source of innovation and support.

“We are delighted to be creating these new exciting roles to support SAP’s continuing strong business growth and providing excellent career opportunities for talented professionals and graduates to work in Ireland.

“The technology sector is driving much of the recovery in the economy and is providing the types of jobs and careers that we need to create to compete in an increasingly international and digital world,” said Mr Ryan.

Barry O’Leary, CEO of IDA Ireland said: “SAP is one of the most prominent brands in the global ICT sector. The announcement is a vote of confidence in Ireland’s technological capabilities and strong track record in the ICT sector.” The company already employs around 500 people at its facility in Parkmore.
