Sandra launches debut album at Fringe Festival
Athenry singer Sandra Coffey will launch her debut album titled Morning Zoo on Thursday next, July 25 in the Townhouse Bar in Galway City as part of Galway Fringe Festival. Sandra will be accompanied by a full band on the night, when some great music is promised.
The songs on Morning Zoo are interwoven to reveal a voice that has garnered praise since Sandra arrived on the music scene last year. Her influences are varied and her first album is a mix of soft rock, easy listening and alternative sounds.
The album’s first single, Mascara Girl released last September was nominated for Best Single by Music Review Unsigned. Shortly after that, Sandra was also nominated for Best Female and Best Newcomer.
The title is something that Sandra hopes people will connect with.
“Morning Zoo sums up for me what life can be like at times. I’m a big morning person, but even though I love mornings, life can wake you up and throw some curve balls your way. The songs take their inspiration from many sources,” she explains.
Influences on Morning Zoo range from Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Blondie to David Bowie, and there’s a distinctive Bowie vibe on the album’s final track. Sandra’s vocal inspirations include Joan Baez, Amy Winehouse and Stevie Nicks.
Sandra is delighted that the album is finally finished and being launched.
“It’s a fantastic feeling to be letting this music out to the world. It can be hard to let it go when you work on something for a long time but I’m glad it’s finally out there,” says the Athenry woman.
Morning Zoo is a dream come true for Sandra, who is grateful to the many people who helped out along the way.
She will perform songs from the album on the night of the launch, as well as songs that have inspired her from Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, and Amy Winehouse among others. Admission to the gig is €5.
Morning Zoo will be available to buy at the launch. It is also available to buy online on iTunes and from Sandra’s website www.sandracoffey.ie
