Liam Sammon is now almost certain to be the next Galway football manager, following intensive behind the scenes talks over recent weeks.
An All-Ireland senior medal winner with Galway in 1966, the nowretired teacher at city football nursery, St. Mary’s College, could be officially ratified by early next month.
Although nominations for the position do not close until 4 pm next Tuesday — before interviews take place the following Thursday — Sammon is deemed the ideal choice to build a young team over the
next three years.
For the past fewweeks, a five man committee comprising three Football Board Executive members — including chairman Pat Egan — and two club delegates, Pat Devane of Killererin and Kevin Clancy of Oughterard, have come through possibilities for the job.
