Salthill Prom road and Spiddal road reopen as waves recede

Galway City Council advises that following high tide on Monday morning and the over-topping of The Promenade by waves, the roadway from Blackrock through Salthill has re-opened.

The Promenade from Seapoint to Grattan Road remains closed because of flooding but Grattan Road itself will re-open after City Council crews finish a clean-up of debris.

The Spanish Parade/Fishmarket/Docks area saw a small amount of over-topping which didn’t require the closure of roads in the area.

City Council staff will remove debris from The Promenade & Ballyloughane Beach over the next few hours. Sweepers will be operating and the public is advised to be careful.

Meanwhile, the road along by the promenade in Spiddal has re-opened fully to traffic after huge swells from the sea earlier.

Waves of up to 20 feet throw rocks and debris over the prom onto the public road.

Gardaí had been on duty reducing traffic flow to one lane where necessary, but the waves have now receded and the road has fully re-opened as Council crews have cleared the debris
