Salthill native has sentence for aggravated burglary increased
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Salthill native who assaulted and threatened to kill a 97 year-old woman during a burglary has had his sentence increased.
43 year-old Paul McDonagh, of no fixed abode, but originally from Salthill was convicted in December 2011.
McDonagh was given 9 years in prison with 3 years suspended for the burglary at the elderly woman’s home in Marino, Dublin.
According to today’s Irish Independent, the Director of Public Prosecutions successfully appealed the leniancy of the sentence.
At the Court of Criminal Appeal, Chief Justice Susan Denham said the offence at the “utmost gravity”.
Paul McDonagh’s six year sentence was increased to 10 years.
