SALTHILL MURDER TRIAL OPENS IN CITY NEXT WEEK

The Central Criminal Court will be sitting in Galway next week for the trial of a 31-year-old Connemara woman who is charged with the murder of her boyfriend in the city two years ago.

Maura Thornton, a native of Inverin, Bealadangan, Connemara is charged with the murder of 59 year old Mayo native Kevin Joyce, at Apartment 1, 183 Upper Salthill, Galway on July 31, 2011.

Garda Greg Fleming told a court hearing in August, 2011 that Ms Thornton had replied, “May he rest in peace”, when the charge was put to her.

A post mortem carried out on Mr Joyce’s body at the time by Deputy State Pathologist Khailid Jaber, revealed he had been stabbed several times and had died at the scene.
