Salthill Devon’s new management

SALTHILL Devon will step up to the senior ranks of Irish football this year when they enter the newly formed Eircom League ‘A’ Championship.

The club has appointed Emlyn Long as manager for the upcoming inaugural season, with Mike Quirke as player coach and Steve Clarke as coach. This management unit brings an enthusiastic mix of youth and experience at all levels of the game. ”Emlyn and Mike have two successful seasons behind them with the Eircom under 21 league squad, bringing the championship to Drom in 2006 — being the first non professional outfit to do so” said a club spokesman.

Emlyn Long has risen through the ranks in successfully managing several underage squads at Salthill Devon, most notably winning the youths section of the Umbro Galway Cup two years ago.

Mike Quirke brings a wealth of playing experience to the table having been one of Terryland Park’s favourite sons for over ten seasons. As a team however, they have demonstrated a knack of getting the best from the players and gelling them into a powerful unit.

Both are on the FAI coaching ladder. Outstanding partnerships in football are something of a rarity and Salthill Devon feel that ……………………..
