Salthill Devon drop points yet again as Mervue Utd go top
Soccer Wrap with Mike Rafferty
Mervue United are the new Premier Division leaders as goals in each half by Enda Curran gave them a 2-0 home win over Tuam Celtic.
Salthill Devon remain unbeaten, but they slipped up for the second time in five games when held to a 2-2 draw by Corrib Celtic and in the process lost their position at the top of the table. A few weeks ago they were also held to a similar draw by Maree/Oranmore and on this occasion had to come from behind twice in order to secure a point.
A Keith Greaney free-kick gave the home side the lead in Annaghdown, before Darren Creaven responded to leave matters level at 1-1 at the break. The resumption saw Ciaran Nugent restore Corrib Celtic’s lead, before a late Rory Brennan goal ensured both teams enjoyed a share of the spoils.
In the other game played in the Westside, Corrib Rangers and Loughrea also shared the spoils in a rare scoreless draw.
DIVISION 1
Renmore and Colga were unbeaten going into Sunday’s Division 1 clash at Nolan Park, and at half time it looked like matters were very much going the way of the home side as they led by 2-0 at the break.
However, an excellent second half recovery by Colga saw them time their recovery to perfection as they ran out 3-2 winners. atters could have been so different if Renmore had converted a late penalty, but Luke Byrnes effort was saved by Mark Greaney to ensure the visitors left with all the points on offer.
