Salon duo create elixir for hair loss

Anna Hosty and Carol Joyce are normally beyond busy with their Yourells hair salons in the City, Oranmore and Moycullen. Managing a staff of over 30 across the three locations, they also hold a wig clinic for clients who have lost their hair. In their respective homes they are raising three young kids aged between three and 11.

Anna and Carol took over the City salon on the retirement of the previous owners 17 years ago – Anna had worked there since she was just 13 while Carol had moved over to it from London.

When the pandemic hit, Carol admits she didn’t know what to do with herself, such was the dramatic shift in gear.

But instead of wallowing in the uncertainty that prevailed over much of last year, the pair decided to push ahead with an idea they had first started developing three years ago.

They have now launched a hair vitamin supplement for women post pregnancy after discovering there was nothing on the market that quite fit the niche.

“The timing was bitter sweet,” reflects Carol. “Our salons were closed due to the pandemic but we now had time to really get our teeth into bringing it to the market. Meetings changed from face to face to online – up until that point we had trips to Dublin and the UK for meetings. It was hard to find time that we were both available and free to take time out of the salons at the same time.”
