A safety audit on the new Tuam inner relief road will be carried out in the coming weeks.

The matter was raised at this weeks Tuam Town council meeting where some councillors expressed their concerns about safety on the new road.

Councillor Imelda Kelly said that the temporary road through Suervalu car park was confusing motorists and pedestrians and there was a danger that it could become a death trap.

Councillor Sally Ann Flanagan said that the footpaths were incomplete in the area and this was causing safety problems for pedestrians.

Mr. Frank Gilmore, Director of Services, said that a safety audit was to be carried out on the new road and a report would be ready in a few weeks.
