Ryan impresses in comfortable victory

A second quarter purple patch in a windy Duggan Park last Saturday was enough for Liam Sammon’s side to take control as Galway clinched their second victory of this year’s FBD league campaign.

Established figures such as captain Nicky Joyce and Mountbellew/Moylough’s Joe Bergin linked with new players like Jonathan Ryan to help create a six point interval lead and the home side were never in danger of letting this game slip away.

Underfoot conditions were difficult after the never ending freeze that has covered Ireland since 2009 arrived but January football is never about being pretty and this game was no exception. There were moments to enjoy over the 60 minutes, but little will be remembered from this encounter when these sides’ championship destinies are decided in the summer.

What Galway will learn is that there is a chain of players who have the potential to make the breakthrough and leaders who can bring them…
