Rumours of development collapse ‘Absolute Nonsense’

THE developers of the €400million ‘Crown Square’ retail park on the east of the city have rubbished rumours that the project is set to close down.

Rumours have been circulating in the city over the past week the anchor tenant for the site – a DIY chain – had pulled out.

It was also claimed that builders JJ Rhatigan had let go 80 employees on the site, and that one of the developers was involved in a High Court action over the site.

However, speaking to the Galway City Tribune, Walter King and Padraic Rhatigan branded the rumours “absolute nonsense”.

Construction work began on the site of the former Crown Control site in Mervue – which will be the single biggest project in the West of Ireland – earlier this year, and according to the developers is still on schedule for completion in 2010.
