The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, joined by German violinist Carolin Widmann and under German conductor Ben Gernon, will be in Leisureland on Thursday, April 12, at 8pm to perform a programme of music by Ravel, Korngold and Beethoven.

The event is being presented by Music for Galway and is one of the biggest events in the group’s ‘Let’s Dance!’ 2017-18 concert season.

Ravel’s Le Tombeau du Couperin will open the concert and will be followed by Korngold’s romantic and sparkly Violin Concerto. The event will finish with Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, referred to by Wagner as ‘the apotheosis of dance’ and made famous in recent times by the film The King’s Speech.

With nearly 100 outstanding musicians presenting a concert of outstanding music, this should be a great night.

Music for Galway will also use the occasion to bestow the title of ‘Buan Chara’ on Jane O’Leary.

A founder member of Music for Galway back in 1981, she had various roles in the organisation and was at the helm of artistic programming for until five seasons ago.

American-born Jane is also a celebrated composer in her own right.

Tickets for the concert are available from Music for Galway 091 705962, online www.musicforgalway.ie and from O’Maille’s Shop in High Street, and cost from €10 (full time students and school-going children) to €22.50 (concession) / €25.
