RSA defends position on Galway driver licence service
The Road Safety Authority has defended its position on the new National Driving Licence Service Centre in Ballybrit.
Galway East TD Michael Kitt raised concerns in the Dáil about the centre’s location, and a lack of a postal application service, appointment system and signposting.
In its reply to Deputy Kitt, the RSA says the location of the NDLS office was chosen to ensure that 95% of the population of the county was within 50 kilometers of the service.
It also states that the face-to-face application process is a once-off requirement and is part of a fraud-prevention initiative.
The authority has committed to providing a phone and postal service for renewals and applications later this year for those who have completed a face-to-face validation at a NDLS centre.
An online application system will also be rolled out early next year.
