Rowing Club the venue for musical benefit evening
Date Published: {J}
An evening of great tunes is promised the Galway Benefit Night for Keith Gibbons, which takes place at The Rowing Club, Woodquay this Friday, October 28. The event will feature the good-time, freewheeling sound of Mikey And The Scallwags, a Galway based band who spent the summer playing at festivals across the country, including the Electric Picnic. Also on the bill is Kevin Ryan, a Claremorris born, Berlin based singer.
Keith Gibbons, who is from Mayo and lives in Galway, was first diagnosed in 2007 with a malignant brain tumour. Since then he has undergone multiple surgeries, various sessions of radiotherapy, and regular chemotherapy. In August, he was accepted into a clinical trial at the Burzynski clinic in Houston, Texas.
The clinic aims to defeat cancer by utilising cutting-edge, gene-targeted personalised cancer treatments for every patient. It is expensive and is not covered by Keith’s medical insurance.
The K Project was set up by Keith’s family and friends to provide financial support during his time there and for his ongoing treatment when he returns home. Various benefits nights are taking place across Ireland and England, including this one in the Rowing Club.
DJ Garr will be spinning tunes until the wee hours, and in addition to those already named, more acts will be added to the bill. Tickets are €10 and will be available on the door.
The night kicks off at 9pm. For more, see thekproject.org
