There has been a row over a loan of 1 and a quarter million euro for the purchase of 5 acres of land at Clybaun in Knocknacarra.

City management had already committed themselves to acquring the land at the end of 2007 without consulting city councillors.

This caused huge objection in City Hall last night as councillors felt that the price agreed with landowner James Keane is well over-priced.

Councillor Michael Crowe raised the point that an up to date valuation would price the land at around 800 thousand euro.

City Manager Joe MacGrath says that it was an “executive decision” and one that he stands by.
