The Riptide Movement will play the Róisín Dubh next Wednesday, December 9. It’s been a good year for the Dublin-based band, with their song All Works Out getting extensive airplay and sound-tracking the Discover Ireland advertising campaign.

Going back further, the band opened for The Rolling Stones in Hyde Park in 2013, and released their debut second album in 2014. Called Getting Through, it was a mix of optimism and darker moments and went to the top of the Irish album charts.

“We were actually strolling up Grafton St when the word came through that the album was number one,” says singer and guitarist Mal Tuohy. “The irony was that we were stood right by our old busking spot, which is how we’d kept the wolf from the door in our early years. So we grabbed a few bottles of Champagne and made our way to the top floor of St Stephen’s Green car park, where we shot our very first video five years earlier to a song called Reno.

Getting Through marked The Riptide Movement’s first release with Universal Records, and the members are happy to have a major label behind them as they embark on bringing their music to the wider world.

This toe-tapping, indie-rock outfit give a great live performance, so fans should enjoy their Galway show. Doors at 8pm, tickets €20/€18.
