Roscommon-Galway 3rd Count: O’Donoghue, Leyden eliminated

So far six candidates have been eliminated in the Roscommon-Galway election count with just one candidate elected after three counts.

In a pain-stakingly slow count, sorters are distributing the 4,800 second preferences of Green candidate Julie O’Donoghue and Fianna Fáil’s Orla Leyden.

Four candidates in the count were eliminated on the second count – Thomas Fallon (Ind), Paul Hanley (National Party), Kieran Tynan (Solidarity People Before Profit) and James Hope (Aontú).

Denis Naughten (Ind) is the next candidate expected to be elected but it will likely take a further two counts.

The count is likely to go well into the early hours of the morning at the Dr Hyde GAA Park.
