If you like rootsy rhythm and blues and toe-tapping Americana, then don’t miss Joe Fury and the Hayride in at Monroe’s Live this Sunday, June 5. The band will be joined by the red-hot pianist Gavin Povey, making this show one that should not be missed.

A band that always impress live, their sound is influenced by rockabilly, old-timey country, hillbilly boogie, rhythm ‘n’ blues to old time ballads. The band are Joe Fury on vocals and acoustic guitar, Eddie Walsh on electric guitar and vocals, Brian Marshall on dog house bass on vocals, Darren McDonald on drums and Dave Clancy on steel guitar.

Gavin Povey is a sensational pianist who has spent the last few years playing with the venerated English guitarist Albert Lee.

Joe Fury also reveals that Gavin played with Shakin’ Stevens “before Shakin’ Stevens started wearing funny-looking Christmas jumpers”.

With a boogie-woogie style that’s all his own, Povey is a player par-excellence.

Joe Fury and The Hayride have performed on some of Ireland’s premier stages – including the Kilkenny Roots Festival, Monaghan Blues Festival, Limavady and Dunfanaghy Jazz and Blues Festivals, Electric Picnic and the Cork Jazz Festival, the prestigious international Rockabilly Rave in the UK. They have appeared as guests of Imelda May and Big Sandy amongst others. This is authentic, accomplished music – and, just as importantly, it’s unabashedly fun. Good-time music to see out your weekend – go for it!

Doors 9pm, Tickets €10/€7 online.
