Raising Jupiter return to the city’s Monroe’s Live next Thursday, March 5, for their first headline show in the Dominick Street venue. The Cork based rock trio last played Monroe’s in January, when they opened for AC/DC tribute, Whole Lotta Voltage.

Raising Jupiter are Dave Aitken (vocals/guitar), John McGrath (drums) and Sean Scott Baird (bass). They started playing together when John and Sean asked Dave to join their covers band.

“I was looking for a way to get back playing, I’d taken a small hiatus,” Dave says. “That was around 2012. I was more looking to do the original stuff. So John and myself started working on that. Seán was involved with a metal band at the time.”

Dave and John eventually had an album’s worth of material, and following a series of successful shows in Spain, decided to form Raising Jupiter. They needed a bassist, and there was only one name on the list.

“We said ‘let’s make the three-piece thing happen’, so we invited Seán to come back,” says Dave. “We spent the next while gigging, gearing up to release the album in May of 2014.”

The band have since put in the slog on the touring circuit and amassed over 16,000 followers on social media. If genuine rock is your thing, Raising Jupiter are worth a look. Tickets €8/€6.
