Rock and funk on menu from Dublin’s Sal Vitro
Sal Vitro, a Dublin rock quartet with catchy tunes, come to Monroe’s Live on Thursday, March 13. Their biography says they met at a male modelling agency, which may not be true.
“Well, that’s our story and we’re sticking to it!” laughs lead singer and rhythm guitarist Josh Dunford.
What is true is that the band’s beginnings actually lie in the friendship between Josh and lead guitarist Owie Lumsden, who have known each other since primary school. Playing in various bands as they grew up, Owie and Josh met drummer John Cuddy and bassist Rourke Bradley, and Sal Vitro was formed.
“John would be very influenced by heavy drummers like Dave Grohl and John Bonham,” Josh says. “But he can also groove, which suits our sound. The funk element is quite important in a lot of our songs.”
“With Rourke – he was just the only one who applied!” jokes Josh of their bass player and backing vocalist. “He started out being a very good guitar player, but aside from that he just has a very good understanding of music. He’s got a very good ear for arrangement.”
Later this year Sal Vitro, whose music incorporates rock ‘n’ roll, blues, funk, soul and pop, will release their debut album Cirque du Sleaze, which was recorded in Jam Studios, Co Meath.
