ROAD SAFETY AUTHORITY ISSUES ALERT TO MOTORISTS AFTER GALWAY WEATHER ALERT

Galway bay fm newsroom – The road safety authority has issued an alert to motorists as Met Éireann warn of stormy conditions, severe winds and high seas countrywide.

The forecaster has issued a status orange alert warning for Galway with westerly winds of 60 to 70 km/hour and gusts of up to 130 km/hour.

Gardaí are reporting spot flooding on roads in the city, Salthill and Clifden, and are advising of strong crosswinds on the M6 Dublin to Galway road between junction 13 Athlone west and Junction 15 Ballinasloe west.

Meanwhile, over 20 local roads in South Galway including the L8528 at Carrawbaun and the L4512 at Ballyboy are still closed because of severe flooding.

The RSA is advising road users to slow down on wet roads and to watch out for falling or fallen debris.

Meanwhile, Galway city council is advising people to exercise caution in light of the weather alert and people walking along proms and beaches are asked to take extra care.

There is no risk of coastal flooding from high tides but there may be still spot flooding along roads.

Householders are also advised to secure any losse objects or furniture in gardens.
