Risk-taking Tracy Bruen and Band launch new EP

Tracy Bruen and Band will launch their debut EP in Nuns Island Theatre on Thursday, November 27. With influences including Joni Mitchell and the Divine Comedy, Tracy is one of the foremost voices on the Galway scene.

Nuns Island Theatre is a somewhat unusual venue for a gig so why did she choose it?

“I thought it was really risky,” she says. “It’s the end of November, are we going to get people out of the pub to come to the theatre and see music? But then we said, ‘no, we should take the risk, try something different’.”

The venue is fitting because, as the singer explains, the cover of the self-titled EP sees a sketch of Tracy and the band on a theatre stage, complete with curtains and a proscenium arch. The artwork was designed by Galway-based Marta Barcikowska, who is best known as a talented photographer.

Tracy Bruen takes risks in her writing and her songs offer something unusual. Enda’s Song is inspired by the work of Enda Walsh, whose Arts Festival plays, Misterman and Ballyturk, have gone on to international success.
