Risk of flooding in Galway from Storm Bella
Coastal flooding is expected in the West of Ireland this afternoon and tonight, as Storm Bella hits Ireland.
Gusts of up to 110km/h are expected. Combined with high waves and storm surge, there is a risk of coastal flooding along the West coast.
A Status Yellow wind warning came into effect fot the entire country at midday and remains in place until 3am tomorrow (Sunday). Westerly winds will reach mean speeds of 50-65km/h, and will be higher in exposed areas of the West and Southwest, especially tonight.
At 3pm today, a Status Yellow rainfall warning will also come into effect (until 4am tomorrow). There will be very heavy rain, with the possibility of localised flooding as the rain moves southwards over Ireland.
High tides in Galway are at 3pm today (4.21 metres) and 3.20am tomorrow (4.43m).
