Rise in unemployment in Galway city and county
Galway Bay fm newsroom – There’s been a rise in unemployment in Galway city and in most parts of the county over the last month.
Overall there was an increase of 581 on the Live Register for Galway in the month of June compared to May, bringing the jobless figure to 20 thousand 446.
The biggest increase in unemployment last month was in the city, where 331 more people signed on the Live Register.
The unemployment figure for the city is now just over 10 thousand four hundred.
Tuam also saw an increase in its jobless figure last month, with an extra 78 people signing on.
There are now just over 3 thousand one hundred people out of work in Tuam.
In Gort, 62 additional people signed on the Live Register in May, leaving its jobless figure at just over 13 hundred.
Loughrea saw a increase of 60 in its unemployment figure last month, leaving it at just over 2 thousand 190.
The area that saw the smallest increase in unemployment last month was Ballinasloe, where 55 additional people signed on.
Ballinasloe’s unemployment figure now stands at just over 2 thousand 300.
Clifden is the only area that saw a decrease in unemployment last month, with five people coming off the Live Register.
Clifden’s jobless figure now stands at 1,034.
Overall there are 20 thousand 446 people out of work in Galway, a decrease of almost 10 percent on the same period last year.
