RISE IN GALWAY SECOND HAND HOUSE PRICES

Second-hand house prices in Galway have bucked the national trend and risen in the first three months of this year.
The latest quarterly housing bulletin from the Government reveals Galway was the only county which saw the price of a second-hand house rise by 4.6 per cent to an average of 356 thousand euro.
Second hand house prices fell by 5.4 per cent nationally to 359 thousand euro.
However, the price of a NEW home in Galway fell by 2.6 per cent when compared with the same period last year to just under three hundred thousand euro.
House prices nationally also fell by 3 per cent to an average cost of 311 thousand euro for a new house.
President of the Irish Auctioneers and Valuers Institute Edward Carey says while it is a tough year for his members, deals are still being done.
