Review of maternity services in West/North West now underway
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A review of maternity services at the five hospitals in the West/North West Hospital Group is expected to take ‘a number of months’.
Chief Executive of the Group Bill Maher has outlined the implementation plans for 2014 at a meeting of Galway TDs and health forum members.
When the review is complete, it will be considered by the executive management team of the hospital group and the Board.
Activity figures for 2013 were also outlined at the meeting which show that over 10 thousand births were recorded in the period.
Other data shows that 195 thousand patients were treated at emergency departments in the period.
The hospital chief said improving access to services is a priority for 2014 with a particular focus on admission times for emergency departments.
Bill Maher has also vowed to develop the integration of the hospitals as the group moves towards ‘Trust’ status.
