A review of the circumstances surrounding the delay in completing a report on allegations of sexual and physical abuse at the Brothers of Charity residential centre in Galway has been published.

The Western Health Board launched an inquiry into the allegations in April 1999, which wasn’t completed until December in 2007.

A 176 page report revealed that 21 complaints were made by current or former clients of the Brothers of Charity in Galway.

These allegations were made against 18 individuals – 11 brothers, 4 lay members of staff and 3 past service users during the period 1965 to 1998.

The review, carried out by John Hynes, found that there were unreasonable delays in the length of time.
